The Medical Assistant (MA) position is assimilated throughout St. Charles Health System encompassing practices in three Central Oregon counties and numerous specialties including orthopedic services, family care, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, immediate/urgent care, cardiology, pulmonology, rheumatology, general surgery, cancer care, behavioral health, and sleep medicine. Our MAs collaborate with physicians and non-clinical staff to assure we are providing our community with comprehensive and compassionate health care. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for daily patient flow for each respective physician for whom they work. Must use triage skills to gather information from which designated staff can make appropriate patient health assessments and to anticipate physician's needs as they relate to the patients' medical care. This position does not manage any other caregivers. Essential functions and duties include escorting patients to exam rooms and prepping for physician assessment, recording and maintaining patient's medical data in patient's medical chart, assisting physician with answering phone requests from patients and/or other medical professionals and institutions, performing a variety of physician-requested ancillary and/or surgical patient procedures (excluding administration of IV medication), maintaining equipment and instrument supply inventory levels, supporting the vision, mission, and values of the organization, supporting Lean principles of continuous improvement, providing and maintaining a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests, conducting all activities with professionalism and confidentiality, complying with laws and regulations, delivering customer service and/or patient care in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner, and performing additional duties as required or assigned. Education required is a high school diploma or GED, with preference for graduates of an accredited Medical Assistant program. Licensure/certification required includes current MA Certification from recognized organizations or licensure as an intermediate or paramedic level EMT, Oregon LPN, or Oregon RN, and AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification. Experience required includes basic knowledge of ICD-10, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures, working knowledge of medical practice management information systems, and basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards. Must maintain confidentiality and meet HIPAA requirements. Personal protective equipment must be worn as required. Physical requirements include standing and walking 75% or more of the time, sitting and lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1-25 pounds frequently, occasional bending, stooping, climbing, reaching overhead, lifting 25-50 pounds, grasping/squeezing, and ability to hear whispered speech level, rarely climbing stairs or exposure to wet/slippery areas and chemical solutions. The schedule is 40 hours weekly, Monday-Friday, with shifts of 4-10's and 5-8's. The position is not exempt and is part of the medical assistant job family.
