Job Title: Safety Manager - Heavy Civil Construction
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Type: 24-month contract (potential for permanent employment)
Start Date: Mid-October

Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to join a fast-growing heavy civil construction project. This is a 24-month contract with the potential to transition to a permanent role based on performance. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in heavy civil construction, including excavation, soil management, and equipment risk mitigation, combined with strong leadership and soft skills to foster a safety-first culture.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage all aspects of safety for a heavy civil construction project.

• Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies, procedures, and best practices.

• Conduct risk assessments and provide guidance on excavation, soil types, and equipment hazards.

• Collaborate with project managers, operations teams, and contractors to ensure safety compliance.

• Drive proactive safety initiatives and continuous improvement across the site.

• Participate in hiring and onboarding of site safety personnel as needed.

• Maintain accurate documentation and reporting for regulatory compliance.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Safety Manager in heavy civil construction projects.

• Strong knowledge of construction safety standards, excavation hazards, and equipment risk management.

• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and foster a collaborative safety culture.

• Demonstrated ability to handle character-based, situational challenges.
