Summary

We are looking for a Senior Health Coach to lead and mentor a team of health coaches while offering personalized guidance to clients aiming to enhance their health and well-being. 
As a Senior Health Coach, one will be essential in helping individuals reach their health goals, manage chronic conditions, and adopt lasting healthy lifestyle changes.

Duties

Provide individual health coaching sessions, including health assessments, goal setting, developing wellness plans, and providing ongoing support.

Lead, mentor, and supervise other Health & Wellbeing Coaches, offering guidance and support for their professional development and ensuring quality client care.

Help clients develop and implement strategies for weight loss, improved nutrition, stress management, increased physical activity, and behavior changes that support overall well-being.

Collaborate with healthcare providers (e.g., doctors, nurses, nutritionists) and wellness teams to ensure a holistic approach to client health, and integrate medical advice into client plans.

Track and monitor client progress, adjusting wellness plans as needed, and maintaining detailed records of client interactions and achievements.

Design and deliver engaging health education workshops and group coaching sessions on various health and wellness topics, such as nutrition, fitness, and chronic disease management.

Stay up-to-date on the latest health and wellness research, trends, and best practices, and integrate new knowledge into coaching practice and service development.

Promote and advocate for the benefits of personalized care and health coaching to a variety of audiences, including community organizations and healthcare professionals.

Comply with all relevant codes of practice and conduct, including policies concerning data protection, health and safety, and safeguarding.

Requirements

Certification from a recognized health coaching program (e.g., National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC)).

A minimum of 1-4 years of related experience in health coaching or a related field, with proven leadership or supervisory experience.

A Bachelor's degree in health science, nutrition, psychology, or a related field; a Master's degree in a related field is a plus.

Proficiency in behavior change techniques, motivational interviewing, and evidence-based coaching strategies.

A strong understanding of nutrition, exercise principles, stress management, and holistic health approaches.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills to build rapport with diverse clients and colleagues.

The ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and manage/lead a team of health coaches.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for tracking progress and maintaining records.

A compassionate, empathetic, and patient demeanor, with a passion for helping others achieve their health and well-being goals.

The ability to adapt coaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of clients and to work in various settings (e.g., from home, GP practices, community venues)

Advanced certifications: Specialized certifications like AFPA Senior Health Coach Certification, or other advanced training in areas such as chronic condition management, functional medicine, or specific populations (e.g., seniors) demonstrate a commitment to specialization and enhanced expertise.

Cultural competence: The ability to understand and effectively work with individuals from diverse backgrounds (ethnic, linguistic, socioeconomic) is crucial in health coaching. This involves recognizing personal and institutional biases and adapting coaching strategies accordingly.

Technology proficiency: Familiarity with digital tools and platforms used in health coaching, such as telehealth platforms, mobile health apps, and wearable devices, can be highly advantageous. This allows for effective virtual coaching, data tracking, and remote client management.

Experience in specific health conditions: Prior experience or expertise in coaching individuals with particular health concerns, such as heart disease, diabetes, or obesity, can be a valuable asset.

Strong business and marketing skills: For health coaches potentially involved in program development or seeking to expand their reach, business and marketing skills can be beneficial. This includes developing a business plan, identifying target clients, and building an online presence.

Problem-solving abilities: The ability to help clients navigate challenges and adapt their plans when faced with obstacles or setbacks is highly valued.

Experience with employee wellness programs: For roles in corporate or organizational settings, experience in designing and leading employee wellness programs is a significant plus.
