What success looks like

  • Work with executive leaders across the business to deliver strategic direction for skills development and technical training initiative based organizational priorities, including but not limited to Strategic Workforce Planning, industry skill demands, and evolving technologies.
  • Ensure alignment and coordination with regulatory / rate case procedures and filings to incorporate Technical Training funding priorities. In the UK to include compliance with Government funded learning contractual requirements.
  • Oversee quality assurance for reporting and conduct strategic analysis of data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement in training design, delivery and sourcing.
  • Identify and implement funding solutions to maximize National Grid's industry engagement and reduce cost burdens for training development and delivery (e.g. identify grants, partnerships, and revenue generation streams to offset the costs of training).
  • Maintain regional accountability for the strategic direction and performance of training programs, new and emerging skills aligned to regulated and non-regulated business unit requirements.
  • Engage with senior stakeholders, including VP, COO, HRBP, and union leadership, to ensure effective training governance.
  • Foster senior-level external skills engagement and strategic partnerships with government, regulators, academia, and professional bodies.
  • Execute the Technical Skills Annual Learning Plan to address workforce development needs.
  • Strategically partner with business unit transformation teams to drive workforce performance and safety compliance through innovative development / deployment of learning technologies, strategies and interventions that integrate technical, behavioral and business capabilities.
  • Oversee regional financial planning, performance metrics, budget management, and compliance with quality management systems.
  • Manage processes, planning, and scheduling to ensure alignment with business unit objectives and minimize duplication of efforts.
  • Oversee regional training facilities and asset management (includes operational Substations, Overhead lines and Gas Installations) to support effective training delivery.
  • Ensure the safety and leadership of training professionals, delegates, and facilities, promoting a culture of safety and continuous learning.
  • Ensure delivery of a high-quality level of training from design through to delivery and safeguarding.
  • Build and maintain a strong talented technical training team with robust succession planning to ensure the people within the team have the appropriate competencies, business capabilities and leadership behaviors for current and future delivery requirements.

What knowledge and experience you need to be successful

  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a global training organization, with a track record of driving training delivery. 10+ years management / learning and development experience.
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Education, or a related field - Preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with industry best practices and emerging trends in technical training and development programs.
  • Proven experience of steering / developing technical skills at the national level with professional institutions / Government bodies.
  • Strong understanding of technical training principles, methodologies, and best practices, with knowledge of industry-specific regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge of learning management systems (specifically Success Factors) and understanding of industry best practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Experience in budget management, commercial acumen and resource allocation.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience in managing a team of training professionals.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Location: US, either NY or NE

Salary: $200,000 - $240,000 + wider remuneration
